I believe art is a reliable tool that allows us to reflect and understand the world around us, the experiences we are part of and ourselves.

Through my work I want to build a narrative which can spark a reflection. I am interested in diving into the collective unconscious, bringing to life all the elements that make us part of the same whole. By referring to a cultural and social heritage which develops together with us and talks about us, I try to show what really ties us together using familiar imagery.

The sky and the body represent the two main elements of my work at the moment; they are elements that we all share, despite and beyond any differences. To me the body is the external representation of the infinity that’s inside of us, as well as the first and most immediate means of interaction that we have. Through this we experience and translate the world we live in.

In my series “Let’s talk about human beings” I depict the encounter between two or more bodies, in order to talk about intimacy and the personal growth which takes place between them. According to Lacan, we recognise ourselves through the interaction with the other as if we were mirrors through which we reflect each other’s identity. The naked body has always embodied a strong symbolism in the history of art, and specific gestures performed by the body have been used to communicate different ideas, whether they were religious, political or social. Following on from the classical idea about the naked body, which was initiated by Roman and Greek Art and then continued in the Renaissance, my work wants to redeem the symbolic element of the representation of the body. I do this by depicting bodies performing everyday interactions and the emotions these entail. Continuing the history of working with life models, I want to restore a poetic relationship with the body – where it is looked upon as something not necessarily sexual, but as a unifying commonality between us all.

“An open relationship with the sky” is, on the other hand, a series of works which I’ve made by using an air brush, inspired by photos I’ve taken and collected over the years. As the title suggests, the sky is a loyal partner in the open relationship we all share with it. The sky is a silent witness of our experiences, a guardian of our thoughts and most intimate stories, a constant presence from the beginning to end of our lives. This relationship, which is based on total trust and freedom, also reflects the constant change we undergo; just as the sky will be different every time we look up towards it, we too are constantly changing.
